27-06-2018.Sylvester Stallone: the man, the myth, the muscle. This didn't do well at the box office and its easy to see why. Assassins was not the right character for Stallone, a talented filmmaker in his own right should have known better. Stallone had weird decisions throughout his career, he had the opportunity to leave a legacy of true iconic status but the action films were to be his undoing. I didn't care for this film when it was first released and time has not been kind to this film. Richard Donner was not the right director for this screenplay, the original draft sounded much more interesting, Stallone would have killed certain aspects as well. The only thing about this film that is remotely interesting is Banderas, who steals the entire film away from Stallone, not a huge compliment by any means sadly. Stallone was not the right choice for the lead, he fits into the crowd as a contract killer like an elephant in your living room. ![]() The film is a missed opportunity and has not grown into a guilty pleasure film after all these years of release. But finding his way out of the world of contract killing grows ever more dangerous as Rath falls for his target, Electra (Julianne Moore), and becomes a marked man himself. ![]() Horrified by the murder of innocent bystanders, Rath decides to take one last job and then return to civilian life. Assassin Robert Rath (Sylvester Stallone) arrives at a funeral to kill a prominent mobster, only to witness rival hired gun Miguel Bain (Antonio Banderas) complete the job for him - with grisly results.
